Lawn & Garden

Gardening is considered our nation's most popular pastime, yielding fresh fruits and vegetables for the dinner table, a cleaner environment and aesthetically pleasing landscapes. North Carolina Cooperative Extension helps gardeners learn more about new plants, native plants and environmental stewardship. Extension-trained Master Gardener volunteers are instrumental in these efforts, sharing their knowledge of plant selection, cultural practices and pest management with fellow gardeners, school students and others.

We are pround of the nineteen local residents who celebrated the successful completion of the Dare County Master Gardener Volunteer Program. Master Gardener volunteers are part of the volunteer staff of NC State University's Cooperative Extension Service. They are members of the local community who take an active interest in their lawns, trees, shrubs, and gardens. They provide unbiased, research based educational assistance and programs in horticulture and environmental issues to the gardening public. Visit the Extension Master Gardener web site to learn more.

Dare Extension Master Gardeners Win State Award

Extension Master Gardeners in Dare County were declared winners of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardener Search For Excellence Award. The honor was presented in Charlotte and several members of the Dare Extension Master Gardeners accompanied Susan Ruiz-Evans, Agricultural Extension Agent to receive the award.
