4-H Needs You - Sewing

Your Help Is Needed “Sew” Much!

The Polk County 4-H Program is eagerly seeking volunteers to help with the Winter Semester of our Sewing Program. You do not need to be a seamstress–just someone with basic sewing skills who enjoys working with children. Each sewing volunteer is paired up with a student aged 9-18 to mentor them through their project, which will culminate in a finished clothing item they will model at our annual fashion show.
This is a collaborative, fun-filled, and relaxed environment where mentors and students make strong and long-lasting connections with one another. Volunteers would need to be available to help on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30–5 p.m. from mid-January through mid-March, 2022. The Sewing Program meetings take place at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Polk County office in Columbus.
We have a long waiting list of students excited to be part of the Winter Sewing Program. Your help would be “sew” important to them!

To help, or to find out more about the program, please contact 4-H Youth Development Agent Helen Blackwell at 828-894-8218 or by email.

Many mentors stay in touch with their student partner long after the program has ended.
