Therapeutic Horticulture-Dare County

(Updated: Oct. 6, 2025, 8:51 a.m.)

The Therapeutic Horticulture Program in Dare County, North Carolina, offered through the Extension Master Gardener℠ program, cultivates growth, healing, and connection through the power of plants. Rooted in the belief that gardening nurtures both body and mind, the program engages participants of all abilities in hands-on horticultural activities—planting, harvesting, sensory gardening, and creative nature projects—that promote relaxation, confidence, and social connection. Guided by trained Master Gardener volunteers, participants experience the mental and physical benefits of working with living things. The program blossoms as a model for inclusive, community-based wellness in Dare County.
