Pressure canner

Canning season is right around the corner, so now is the time to have your pressure canner checked for accuracy. This is super important because the pressure needs to be correct in order to produce a safe product.

Pressure Canner Testing Day will be Monday, April 26, 2021, at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Dare County office (517 Budleigh Street in Manteo).

Gauge-type dials can be tested, but not the jiggler type. You do not have to bring in your whole canner, just the lid with your name and phone number attached. Your canner will be thoroughly checked, including making sure the pressure plug is in place and checking to see if the rubber gasket is pliable and free from cracks.

You may bring your canner lid in any time throughout April, the testing will be done on the 26th then you will be contacted to pick it up along with any recommendations.
