The Art of Seeds Submission Form_Art of Seeds List Plant by Grade – Sheet1

Calling all young artists and gardeners!

N.C. Cooperative Extension, Dare County Center is thrilled to announce the launch of the Art of Seeds Competition! This project is designed to encourage and celebrate growing food and flowers from seeds. As Extension educators passionate about nurturing young minds and fostering environmental stewardship, we invite Dare County students from Kindergarten to 12th grade to participate in this exciting event.

Categories:

  1. Elementary Division: K-5
  2. Middle School Division: 6-8
  3. High School Division: 9-12

Rules and Guidelines:

  1. Theme: Each artwork must represent the plant, produce or flower that has been assigned to each grade.
  2. Art Medium: Participants may use any medium of their choice, such as watercolor, acrylics, colored pencils, mixed media, or digital art.
  3. Size: Artwork should be designed to fit within the dimension for an 8×11 inch canvas. The canvas can be any material.
  4. Originality: All submissions must be original creations of the participating student. Plagiarism will result in disqualification.
  5. Submission: Participants should submit their original artwork.
  6. Deadline: The deadline for submission is April 11, 2024.
  7. Identification: Each entry must have the Art of Seeds submission form attached to the originalartwork.

Judging Criteria: A panel of judges will score each piece based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic skills
  • Creativity and originality
  • Relation to the contest theme
  • A unique and novel approach to the artwork and title
  • Technical skill by grade level
  • Adherence to the contest rules and requirements

Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries in each division, including art supplies, gift certificates, and recognition on our website and social media platforms. Each grade’s winning designs will be featured on custom seed packets that will be distributed at the Dare County Seed Libraries.

Celebration Event: Join us for a celebration event where selected artworks will be showcased, and winners will be announced. Date and details to be announced soon! Winning artwork will be on display at various outreach events throughout Dare County through 2024.

Let your imagination bloom and sow the seeds of creativity with us! Together, let’s inspire our community to celebrate home gardening and growing!

Included with this letter is a copy of the submission form and a list of plants by grade. Please refer students to the links that have been shared for inspiration and guidance, but please encourage creativity as they artistically interpret each plant, vegetable, or flower.
