Calling all fig enthusiasts and adventurous gardeners!
This spring, the Coastal Garden Festival plant sale is offering a unique opportunity to expand your fig collection with rare and hard-to-find varieties. Whether you’re a seasoned grower or just starting out, these exceptional fig trees will bring a touch of the Mediterranean to your backyard.
We’re offering a curated selection of fig trees, chosen for their unique flavors, adaptability to our local climate, and some with unique histories. Many of these varieties are not typically found in local nurseries, making this a truly special opportunity.
Here is just a sampling of the varieties that will be available for sale!
• ‘Black Italian’: Produces especially sweet, large black fruits with glossy skin and deep red flesh.
• ‘LSU Gold‘: This variety produces large figs that have a light-amber flesh with a hint of agave nectar, making them an excellent choice for fresh eating.
• ‘Jefferson Brown Turkey’: A classic favorite, prized for its large, sweet, and mild-flavored figs. A vigorous grower and reliable producer. Descendent of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello Orchard.
• ‘Yellow Longneck’: It’s a vigorous grower and prolific fruiter, and it can be grown in the ground or in a large container. The sweet fruit is bright yellow with a thin, tender skin. It’s delicious when eaten fresh off the tree.
• Nero 600m: Discovered in the foothills of the Italian alps, at 600 meters, as the name implies, it has been touted as being extra cold hardy due to its high elevation origin.
• ‘Strawberry Teardrop’: A large to extra large-sized green fig with strawberry red pulp. Very sweet. Very vigorous and prolific.
Growing different varieties of figs is a rewarding and fascinating hobby. Figs are easy to grow, and you get to enjoy fresh, homegrown figs with unique sweetness and flavor. Quantities are Limited!!
