Join the Master Gardener℠ volunteers of Dare County in the coming weeks to discuss plants that have been proven to survive and thrive on the OBX!

Camellia japonica, Camellia sasanqua and

The Camellia is one of the most desirable plants of a Southern garden. There are over 3000 different camellia cultivars, with blooms varying in colors, sizes, and forms. It is a large, evergreen shrub that can reach a height of 6 to 12 feet at maturity. Camellias can live an extraordinarily long time, with some specimens living well over 200 years.

Several varieties can be found at the Outer Banks Arboretum and Teaching Garden.
